Österlen Lyser, Kreativa Klasaröd

Last weekend the local village of Klasaröd took part in the Österlen Lyser tradition for the first time.  Several local businesses also got together to exhibit the creative entrepreneur spirit of the area.  I was there with my photography business as was a carpenter, landscape architect, textile designer, baker, doll maker, water-color artist, and a ceramics artist.  One of the highlights of the weekend was the performance by a fire juggler.

Förra helgen firade den lilla byn Klasaröd Österlen Lyser för första gången.  Flera lokala företag har också gått ihop i ett samarbete som heter Kreativa Klasaröd, och de ställde ut i samband med evenemanget.

Light up the night

A few years ago, an idea was hatched for extending the tourist season around here. November is generally miserable in this part of the world, so that was no easy task. It’s cold and dark and wet. The fall colors are off the trees, but it’s not cold enough for snow to stick. What they came up with is Österlen Lyser. Österlen is the name of the area; lyser means shines or glows.

Pretty much every little town in the area comes up with their own way to light up the night during the first weekend in November. Some have performance artists or artwork or fire or light. In the little town of Lövestad, it has become tradition to launch Asian paper lanterns then parade around town with torches.

I estimate that at least a hundred people of all ages participated.  In short, it was a pyromaniac’s dream!  (More of my photos can be seen on Flickr.)
