Baby Leila

A few days ago I got to photograph baby Leila, just two weeks old!  Leia was alert and looking around, so we started off inside with natural light from the kitchen window.  She quickly got used to me and my camera.

The picture above is a bit darker and more dramatic than one usually sees for baby pictures, but I like it that way.

Since the weather was so nice, we took some pictures outside too.

We were hoping that she would go to sleep and curl up in the basket, but despite several attempts, it just wasn’t happening.  When we took a break to make sure her tummy was full, I took the opportunity to photograph those adorable little feet.

Stretching out on the wagon was more her style, but she was still not the least bit inclined to go to sleep.

Baby’s second portrait session

Not long after I did the previous baby portrait session, I was back doing another.  Again, it was a cold winter day, but this time, the mom had prepared by heating the kitchen to tropical temperatures.  A bedroom probably would have been easier for me as the photographer, but it’s not about me.  It’s my job to adapt to the situation, and the kitchen was the warmest room in the house.  We needed it warm, because we wanted some pictures of the baby when she wasn’t all bundled up in blankets and wool sweaters.

I think the baby enjoyed the experience.  She was alert and in a good mood.  She also moved her arms a lot and posed like a model.

Eventually the baby started getting a bit tired, and the hands and feet slowed down.  I took the opportunity to take some close ups of those adorable tiny hands and feet.

With my favorite shot, I decided to play around a bit and emphasize the baby’s beautiful dark blue eyes.

Baby’s first portraits

I took these pictures last week of a little girl just one month old.  Instead of the hassle of going to a photo studio, I came to them and photographed the baby in the comfort of her own home.  I kept things simple by using only natural lighting.

I love black and white for portraits, but this pink toning works well too.

For one so little, I thought she had an impressive range of facial expressions.  She also knew how to work her hands just like a model.  A taste of things to come, perhaps?
